I was overwhelmed by the heartfelt generosity showed by my friends and family from all over the country in support of the 2017 Pancake Palooza and homeless families. As a first time Star Server I wasn't sure what to expect but the event was a lot of fun and it was great to see everyone that was able to attend and participate.
For the past year and a half I have been blessed with the opportunity to volunteer in the Haven House office on Sunday mornings. In 2016 Christmas was on a Sunday so I had the pleasure to witness the Haven House kids enjoying the toys, clothes and stocking treats that Santa and his donor elves had provided.
4 months later on a Sunday morning at Haven House I received a call that my Mom had passed away shortly before the 8 am barrage of calls from prospective residents seeking shelter. It is rare for Haven House to have an open room on a Sunday but on this particular Sunday there was an opening and I was thankful to keep busy arranging for a new family to move in.
It has been my experience that in addition to the wonderful services that it provides to homeless families, Haven House also provides its volunteers and donors with the satisfaction of helping others.
