Hi. I'm S. Pat Newhouse!
As a Sister of Charity for the past 62 years I have dedicated my life to caring for others. I am also known as "Sister Pat in the Hat" because I love dressing up to entertain people even if its not Halloween. I have been a Pancake Palooza Star Server at Haven House's annual fundraiser for the past 5 years. Since 1993 I have served as a teacher, religious education director and pastoral care minister at St. Martha in Okemos. Over the years I have participated in several different fund raisers supporting many organizations, such as; MDA, SIDS, PBS Telethons and area food banks, just to name a few.
I first got involved with Haven House by selling 3 editions of their MSU Tailgate Cookbooks. This lead to an invitation to becoming a Star Server at the 2nd annual pancake breakfast fundraiser. That day as I was leaving Haven House I met a Mom with a small child and a six day old baby. This really touched my heart and spurred my efforts to try to do my best to help homeless families and at the same time to inspire others to do the same.
For the past 5 years I have been the Palooza's People's Champion award winner, soliciting more donors than the other Star Servers. I have raised nearly $30,000 to help families. More importantly though I have made many people aware of homelessness in our area. My fellow Star Server, Mark McDaniel, who has been the Pancake Award winner since 2014, would like to have both trophies, but I have been able to keep it from him for the past 5 years and with your donation you can help me do it again.
During this pandemic it is even more urgent than in years past for everyone to dig deep and pitch in to help these families get into permanent housing. So, inform your friends about this wonderful organization and if everyone contributes to this great cause together, we can make miracles happen.
Haven House not only finds them housing they also help them by developing and promoting self-sufficiency, stability, and financial responsibility by providing crisis counseling, assistance with goal setting and referrals to other agencies as needed.
I strongly encourage all of you to donate to Haven House this coming year so we can together help families get back on their feet again.
For my 1st time as a Star Server I wrote what has now become the Haven House Fight Song. It really describes Haven House's mission. It goes to the tune of the MSU fight Song.
Join me and the other Star Servers this year for the virtual Pancake Palooza on Saturday, February 20, 2021. You can donate any time between now and then to support my fundraising efforts by just putting S. PAT in the memo line on your check and send it to:
Haven House
121 Whitehills Dr.
East Lansing, MI 48823

Donations can also be made online under my name at: HavenHouseEL.org/pancake

Thank you and God bless you for bringing new life to homeless families.
